If you are planning a romantic getaway, a vacation in Detroit may not be the first place that comes to mind.  However, Detroit and all of Michigan have much to offer in terms of a romantic getaway.  Think sandy beaches, lighthouses, state parks, and scenic drives.

The best time to plan a romantic getaway to Detroit is between early spring and autumn.  Late September and October find the entire state full of spectacular fall foliage.  A romantic getaway could be planned around a stay on the Lake Michigan shore.  There are several lighthouses and resort towns to view and visit, and a bed and breakfast is a great place for a romantic breakfast.

  


  

The town of Ann Arbor near Detroit makes for a great romantic getaway.  With its small town atmosphere, and a downtown area packed with exciting shops, diners, and cafes, this jewel is only 40 miles from Detroit and makes a great day trip for those vacationing in Detroit.

Don’t leave out the option of a stop in Tahquamenon Falls State Park, with its 38,000 acres of pure wilderness.  The park surrounds the gorgeous waterfalls and sports groomed trails, rowboat rentals, camping, and wildlife viewing.  The State Park is a great place to exit city life and have a romantic getaway.

Take a trip over to Holland, Michigan while you’re in Detroit.  This town is built to look and feel like Europe, with is canals, shops, and diners.  What better way to plan a romantic getaway than to spend some time in another country without even having to cross an ocean?

There are so many ways to turn your vacation in Detroit into a romantic getaway that you may have trouble choosing your destinations.  Don’t worry; Detroit isn’t going anywhere, so plan more than one trip and see everything you want!
